CAREER READINESS

  • McDowell Internship Program
A unique program that allows students grades 11 and 12 to leave the school building during the day in order to job-shadow in a career field they have an interest in pursuing after graduation. This is important as it not only gives students a glimpse into this career field before entering the workforce, technical/trade school, or college, but it also affords them the opportunity to put into practice workplace skills and expectations outside the walls of McDowell High School. If you are interested in being part of this great program and mentoring an aspiring student in your field, please email Crystal Myers, Internship Coordinator at cmyers@mtsd.org.
  • McDowell Manufacturing Lab

McDowell Manufacturing is a program developed between a collaborative partnership between the Millcreek Township School District and the Northwest Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center (NWIRC). The program enables qualifying students at McDowell High School the opportunity to participate in a manufacturing enterprise that is making actual parts, delivering services and adding value as part of the supply chain for local manufacturers.

The students will learn about and perform different job functions and manufacturing, develop essential and life-long skills, utilize advanced manufacturing technologies and build relationships with local companies. At the same time this work readiness is occurring, capacity for local manufacturers is advancing, a short-term solution to job placement is underway, future talent pipeline issues are being addressed, and the next generation of manufacturing business leaders is being cultivated.
